Garage Door Repair in Zionsville, IN

Veteran and family owned, about half an hour from our home base in Avon.

Zionsville has a little of everything. Older homes near the brick streets of the Village, wooded lots with side load garages, and newer neighborhoods with three car garages and carriage style doors. Each one is hard on a garage door in its own way, and we work on all of them.

Bart's Garage Doors is a veteran and family owned business. You talk to the owner, you get the price upfront, and nothing starts until you approve it.

Broken Garage Door Spring in Zionsville?

Most people find out the same way. A bang like a gunshot from the garage, and then a door that will not open. That bang is the spring unwinding all at once.

What to do next:

  1. Leave the door closed and unplug or stop using the opener.
  2. Do not lift the door by hand. Without the spring, it is far heavier than it looks.
  3. Look at the bar above the door for a gap in the coil.
  4. Call or text us a photo, and we will tell you what you are looking at.

We replace the spring, inspect the cables, drums, and rollers while we are there, and balance the door. We upgrade to higher cycle springs whenever the door allows it, and every torsion spring we install is covered for 3 years, parts and labor.

Garage Door Tune Ups in Zionsville

On wooded lots, leaves and dirt end up in the tracks and on the safety sensors, and humid summers bring rust to hinges and rollers. A yearly tune up keeps all of that from wearing the door down.

We clean and lubricate the moving parts, check the balance and the cables, test the safety sensors and auto reverse, tighten the hardware, and adjust the opener. $69, or $59 total during our fall special through November 30.

Zionsville Garage Door Questions

Why does my garage door go back up before it closes?

Most of the time it is the safety sensors, the two small eyes near the bottom of the tracks. If one gets bumped, dirty, or hit by low afternoon sun, the opener thinks something is in the way and reverses. Check that both little lights are on and steady, and wipe the lenses. If it still reverses, the opener settings or a binding spot in the track may be the cause, and we can fix that.

Can I replace or adjust a torsion spring myself?

We strongly advise against it. A torsion spring holds enough tension to lift the whole door, and it takes the right winding bars and the right spring size to do it safely. A slip can cause a serious injury. This is one job worth calling a pro for.

What does a higher cycle spring mean?

A cycle is one open and one close. Standard builder springs are rated for about 10,000 cycles. Higher cycle springs are made with a heavier wire and a longer coil, so the same door gets more years out of them. When we replace your springs, we upgrade to a higher cycle spring whenever the door allows it.

Do cold Indiana winters really break springs?

They make it more likely. Steel gets more brittle in the cold, and a spring that is already near the end of its life will often give out on a cold morning. That is why we see more broken springs from December through February, and why fall is a smart time for a tune up.

Do you work on detached garages, side load garages, and carriage style doors?

Yes. They all use the same kinds of springs, cables, rollers, and openers, and we service all of them.

Is your spring work guaranteed?

Yes. Torsion springs installed by Bart's Garage Doors are covered for 3 years from the install date, parts and labor. Other repairs are covered 90 days on labor and 1 year on parts. The warranty does not cover accidents, misuse, or work done by others.

Do you charge to come out to Zionsville?

No. Estimates are free, even for repairs. We can quote by phone or text, or come look at the door in your garage at no charge. Military members and veterans get 10% off.
